Common Challenges & Debugging Solutions

Real issues students hit during development and how to troubleshoot them fast.

State Management

localStorage Corruption on Load

Issue: Editing saved JSON or old schema crashes the app at startup.

Fix Solution:Wrap JSON.parse in try/catch and validate that the parsed value is an array before using it.

State Management

Filter Count Off By One

Issue: The "Active" counter includes a task that was just marked complete because state updates after the count is computed.

Fix Solution:Derive the counter from the same state array used to render the list, in the same render pass, rather than a separately tracked counter variable.
